Local payment method
Also called LPM, alternative payment method, APM
A payment method used mainly in one country or region, such as Pix in Brazil, iDEAL in the Netherlands, BLIK in Poland or konbini in Japan, offered alongside cards at checkout.
A web shop that only takes cards turns away players who pay another way, and the mix changes sharply by region. Appcharge, a web shop vendor, reports from its own transactions that the top three payment methods take about 75% of game web shop revenue in the US, while in Europe no single method passes 30% (Appcharge).
Each method has its own price. Stripe’s US rates, as of September 2026: Pix 2%, BLIK 1.9% + 30¢, Bancontact 1.4% + 30¢, iDEAL/Wero $0.80 flat and Klarna 5.99% + 30¢ (Stripe). Adyen prices Pix “based on transaction volume”. A flat fee like iDEAL’s is cheap on a $50 bundle and expensive on a $0.99 top-up, so the method mix changes your effective rate.
Several merchants of record bundle local methods into one rate. Coda says there is no extra cost for its “400+ payment methods”, and Paddle charges nothing extra for additional methods. With a PSP you enable and pay for each one. See payment methods.
