Dynamic currency conversion
Also called DCC
A checkout option that lets a foreign cardholder pay in their home currency at a rate set on the merchant's side, so the conversion margin is paid by the cardholder.
With DCC, a player abroad sees the price converted into their own currency at checkout and chooses whether to pay that amount. The merchant’s provider does the conversion and keeps a margin, in place of the player’s bank converting it later. The player knows the exact amount before paying, and the conversion cost moves from the studio to the player.
Newer localized-pricing tools make the same trade. Stripe says its Adaptive Pricing is included for the merchant, while “your customers pay 2–4%” for the conversion, built into the local price they see. Compare that with the 1% Stripe US charges the merchant when it converts a payment itself (Stripe).
For a studio the choice is who pays for conversion. You can absorb your provider’s FX markup, or pass a larger margin to the player through a converted price. The second protects your revenue per sale and makes each pack dearer for the player. See hidden fees.
