Web shop
Also called webshop, web store, D2C store
A studio's own online store, outside the app stores, where players buy in-game currency, items and bundles that are credited to their game account.
A web shop is the storefront side of selling direct. The player logs in with their game account, buys a pack, and the items appear in the game. Behind it sits either a merchant of record or the studio’s own payment service provider.
Mobile publishers already earn a large share this way. Sensor Tower estimates that about 30% of revenue for the top 100 casino titles in the US in the first half of 2026 came from web shops, and that Monopoly GO’s web sales reached around a third of its revenue (PocketGamer.biz). Adoption is uneven. Naavik counted web shops at only 22% of the top 50 US iOS grossing games in October 2025 (Naavik).
Traffic is the hard part. Sensor Tower puts 56% of visits to Supercell’s store as direct and 37% from social. In Appcharge’s vendor survey, half of studios named player awareness as their top barrier. Many shops give players a reason to visit: Supercell’s games offer 10–30% bonuses on the web, according to Stash, a web shop vendor. See the mobile web shop guide.
