Interchange plus plus

Also called IC++, interchange++, interchange-plus pricing

A card pricing model where the PSP passes through the actual interchange and scheme fees on each payment and adds its own stated markup on top.

The first plus is the card network’s scheme fees and the second is the PSP’s own margin. Under a blended rate, such as Stripe’s 2.9% + 30¢ for a US domestic card, you pay one price whatever the card costs the PSP. Under IC++ you pay the cost of each card plus a stated markup.

As of September 2026, Adyen prices Visa and Mastercard at “Interchange+ + 0.60%” plus a $0.13 processing fee. PayPal offers IC++ on its advanced card product at “Interchange Pass-through Costs + 0.49% + fixed fee”. Checkout.com offers interchange++ on a quote-only basis.

IC++ tends to favor a studio whose players pay with low-interchange cards, such as EEA consumer debit capped at 0.2%. It is harder to forecast, because the cost of each payment depends on card type and where the card was issued. Run both models against your own card mix in the TCO calculator.
